A Note to Parents

A Note to Parents

As a result of our nation’s response to the virus outbreak, children have been transformed into homeschooling students and parents have been transformed into teachers overnight. So how is #Homeschool2020 going in your home? I have heard reports that in isolated cases, students have been expelled, and teachers have been caught drinking on the job! It is OK. The beginning may be rough, but hang in there, parents! I am a parent, too. As with everything else in life, things improve the more times we do them. All God asks of us is to pray, and do our best.

If your children are middle school or high school students (or, for that matter, adults), I recommend a book titled Big Truths for Young Hearts by Bruce Ware. Ware is on the faculty at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His book is a compilation of conversations on God and faith he had with his own two daughters while they were younger. I do not say I agree with him on everything, but for the majority of the book, I think his theology is spot on. But that is my opinion. I used the book for our morning devotions with our children when they were younger. My wife still uses it to this day with our younger ones.

If your children are very young, Marta has already introduced you to the “What’s in the Bible” series on RightNow Media. I add to her recommendation, “Family Bible Studies” by the same creator, Phil Vischer, on mrphil.tv. The videos are fun, educational, even interactive. Towards the end of each video, he asks questions where you may be able to pause and enjoy growth discussions with your little ones. You are able to access Vischer’s full digital library for free during this national crisis.
