What is the Voice You Follow?

What is the Voice You Follow?

John 10:10 is a verse in the Bible that I learned a very long time ago:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

I viewed it for a long time as God’s positive thinking for me…that he wants me to have a great life! I should live it up because he wants it all for me! For me it has always been a high-water-mark verse that tells me God really wants something very special for me. He created me to have a full and complete life. But how do I get there? How can I find that kind of life?

Well, it is all centered around whose voice you are going to listen to.

This Sunday, August 9, during our service, I will be continuing a series from the parables of Jesus. This week’s parable is found in John 10:1-18. Read ahead and think through what Christ is teaching us. Jesus uses an illustration of a good shepherd and how he cares for his sheep. This was, of course, a familiar picture in the lifestyle of the first-century people of Israel.

As you prepare your hearts for this parable, I am asking you to consider a couple of the words…

  • Do I know the voice of God? (see John 10:3)
  • Do I ever follow the voice and leading of a stranger instead? (see John 10:5)
  • Have I ever felt robbed or cheated of something in my life? (see John 10:10)
  • How would I describe a full life for myself? (see John 10:10)

Let’s come together again this Sunday morning as we open our bibles and study this passage.

See you Sunday.
