The Amazing Romans Chapter 8

The Amazing Romans Chapter 8

I have always considered Romans chapter 8 as one of the favorite chapters in the Bible for me. That’s honestly difficult to truly evaluate because I don’t want to lose any of the chapters. They are all God’s Word and inspired. They are all profitable. But undeniably there are a few that really stand out to me and just have always spoken to me in a very special way. This Sunday we are going to begin the first of four Sunday’s in Romans 8. This chapter is a bit of a Mount Everest summit chapter for me. It’s almost like a Handel’s Messiah that is gorgeous but builds and builds until it comes to the Hallelujah Chorus. Why is Romans 8 this for me? Because it is the certainty that is ours when we are in Christ Jesus our Lord. Often we find instruction passages that tell us what we are to do. But this chapter speaks to us and tells us what we ARE in Christ Jesus. So we are going to walk our way through this passage into Easter Sunday the Resurrection Day –  March 31.

As you prepare for this coming Sunday, focus some time reading Romans 8:1-11. I would also suggest that in your personal reading time over the next few weeks you read and re-read Romans 8 several times, highlighting it and allowing God to speak to you through this powerful chapter of Gospel Truth.

Now, you may be wondering about what my other favorite chapters in the Bible are?  Here’s just a list of some of those chapters are me personally… and I have specific reasons why they have touched me so deeply over the years.

  • Genesis 12
  • Deuteronomy 6
  • Psalm 8
  • Psalm 51
  • Isaiah 6
  • Isaiah 53
  • Habakkuk 3
  • Acts 2
  • 2 Corinthians 5
  • Romans 8
  • Philippians 2
  • Hebrews 11
  • Revelation 21

You might ask, “what about the Gospels?”  I put ALL of the 4 Gospels in a category to themselves… Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. This is also why even in my personal reading routine I ALWAYS read a portion from one of the Gospel stories of Jesus. I may not read all the other parts, but always the Gospels.

I challenge you to do this exercise sometime. Not because you want to exclude any part of the Bible (remember, it is all God’s Word), but it would be interesting for each of us to share our highlight chapters, and why they are so impactful for you.  It would be a wonderful small group exercise to share your story with others, as well as being impacted by how God has worked in others lives.

See you Sunday — Romans 8!
