Today I am giving you a test on “The Book of Jesus”!

A test?! A test of what?

Well, it’s a test of your theology and doctrine.

Everyone’s life is built on theology and doctrine. You may wonder why I say this, because so many people don’t really have a belief in God and a trust in scripture. Do even those people have a theology and doctrine in their life? The answer: yes—as everyone believes in something. Everyone has a “god” of some kind, and they build their life on a doctrine of some sort—either their own invention or a biblical truth. As Christ followers who are growing to trust God’s Word in the Bible, we are trying to make sure we understand what God really says.

On Sunday, September 27, we began a teaching journey, walking our church family down the path of a solid, biblical understanding that we can build our lives on.

  • This is not Billy’s creation.
  • This is not some “company line” or favorite quotes of the day.
  • It is not 5 Steps to a Happy Life.

Much like building a home on a solid foundation, if you are going to build your life on the deepest theological and doctrinal truths found in scripture, you must begin here. We have been through six Sunday lessons that tell us who Jesus is and why we would need him.

So today, I am giving you a challenge test on where we have been over these weeks. Below, I have the key words and phrases that we have used in our Fall season (September – November) through our study together. I want you to take some time to write out what you have learned so far in this study.

Challenge Test

  1. The Holy, Almighty GodWho is Found in Jesus: Colossians 1:15
    • What does “Holy God” really mean?
    • Who is Jesus?
  2. Image Bearers as His Creation: Genesis 1:27
    • What separates us as a human race from all else in God’s creation?
    • What does this say about all humanity?
  3. Shattered—and God’s Rescue Plan: Genesis 3:15
    • What went wrong?
    • How does it affect not only all of humanity, but me personally?
    • What did God do to start the rescue plan?
  4. Covenant: Genesis 12:2-3
    • What is a covenant?
    • What is the covenant pledge that God has made to humanity?
    • Who is God’s covenant intended to reach?
  5. Sacrifice: Genesis 22:8
    • Why is a sacrifice so important?
    • Can I provide a sacrifice?
    • What is the sacrifice that God is providing?
  6. Remember: Exodus 12:14 & Luke 22:19
    • How does the Passover event reflect God’s ultimate rescue plan?
    • What does this say about Jesus on the cross?

To Be Continued…

Are we finished with “The Book of Jesus”? Absolutely NOT!

We just completed Part 1.  We’ll begin again on Part 2 of this study on Sunday, November 29. During this traditional Christmas season, we are going to focus on some of the prophetic biblical messages to us about the coming of the Messiah and how he, Jesus, brings the answers to the deep issues that we have walked through this fall.  That will take us through five Sundays to the end of December, before we launch into Part 3 of our study—the life and teachings of Jesus.

More to come on this in two weeks.

Meanwhile, we are honored to have two Sundays—November 8 and 15—to focus on the mission partnerships of our church during LifeWay’s Global Impact Celebration.

Then on Sunday, November 22, we will focus on Thanksgiving.

Take the biblical/theology test!
