The Most Famous Parable

The Most Famous Parable

Lightstock/Inbetween

Since July 5th, we have been studying week by week through some of the parables of Jesus. Using a parable was the favorite way that Jesus taught lessons. These were not just “moral lessons of life,” but instead were views into what the Kingdom of God was like.

I have asked you each week to make sure you know how to read all the parables for yourself in your personal study:

  • What is the familiar and recognizable truth that became exaggerated in this story?
  • What is the transfer of truth to an eternal meaning?
  • What is the surprising conviction that I am faced with, and what am I going to do about it?

If you learn to answer these questions, then I promise you will have a greater understanding of what Jesus is saying to you personally. Remember—God’s Word, the Bible, is NOT just a series of ancient stories. This is God actively speaking to us. He is speaking to you right now through this Word.

The final parable that we will work through is the most famous of all of the parables. Found in Luke 15 are actually three parables back to back: the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin, and the Lost Son (often called the Prodigal Son). Read all of Luke 15 as you prepare to study this Sunday. Go ahead and ask yourself the questions we have listed above. Then on Sunday, together, let’s study and learn what the Kingdom of God is all about through this magnificent and powerful high-water-mark parable.

See you Sunday morning at 10 a.m. through one of our three “front doors”:

  • In a small group during the streaming service
  • In person on the property as we meet outside (please register before Sunday!)
  • Live streaming in your home or wherever you are
