Raising the Next Generation to Know God

Raising the Next Generation to Know God

What a joy it is to be a parent. Well… most of the time, right?

Just this week I saw on Facebook another one of our families who is celebrating their little babies month by month birthday. It’s that cute photo of the infant laying on a blanket surrounded by those 12 numbers with a circle on how many months old they are now. Those are the cutest photos and what a joy it is to celebrate.

This coming Sunday we are celebrating families. We are celebrating the fact that God gave us babies that soon become children, and those children soon become teenagers. We’re celebrating and encouraging the mom’s and dad’s in their amazing responsibility. We are standing with the grandparents and their amazing role they play. We are committing as a church family to the God-givien responsibility we have in the lives of these precious ones for the next two Sundays. The hardest job in the world still is raising children. It’s also truly the most significant and important God-given and God ordained role that any of us have.  Many of us have jobs and careers and ambitions that we want to fulfill, but God shows us that He has ordained us and commissioned us to raise up the next generation of Christ followers. This is our focus for the next two Sundays – May 7th and May 14th.  We are taking the commands straight out of Deuteronomy 6, as it is the most direct passage in all the Bible that speaks to this God-ordained role we play. Deuteronomy chapter 6.

As you come this coming Sunday morning I ask you to come prepared by reading through carefully Deuteronomy 6 in its entirety. Spend a little time thinking over this passage. Read some of the notes that might be in  your Bible on this passage. We’re going to let this chapter dictate what we teach and how we learn this role of generational responsibility over these two Sundays.

During our worship Sunday morning, we’re going to spend time praying for our parents and grandparents, and we’re going to especially pray for our children. I’m excited to see you this Sunday. But I’m most excited to be able to lift up in prayer and encouragement this incredible gift of the next generation that God has placed in our care.

See you Sunday morning at 10am.
