This week our “field correspondent,” Heather Althoff, is sharing her daily experiences on mission at Eternal Anchor.

TuesDAY, AUGUST 10

We spent some time helping Eternal Anchor begin their move to a new school campus. A local community center is allowing them to use their space for the next 5 years. This will allow them to expand the residential program at their current campus.

Stella and Emilie help Raul work on strengthening his legs for walking.

Game time at the end of the school day means smiles for everyone!

In the afternoon, we toured Eternal Anchor’s ranch. This beautiful space has a garden, play space, stables, housing, and a therapy garden.

Produce from the garden helps feed students in the residential program.

The new Mobility Workshop at the ranch provides a base of operations for outreach into the surrounding community, providing adaptive equipment and creative solutions for mobility.

Horse therapy is highly effective in that horses are the only other animals on earth with the same walking rhythm as humans. Horses also have a higher body temperature so they essentially provide heat therapy to the children’s muscles as they ride.

Activity stations along the route allow kids to receive multiple kinds of therapy at the same time.

Come experience Eternal Anchor for yourself! We’re accepting applications through August 15 for the next short-term mission trip in October.
