What Chapter of Life am I in?

What Chapter of Life am I in?

Track and Field is a great sport, but honestly much different than most other sports. It really is not a team sport at all, as it is pretty individual by the way it is set up. Let me explain:

  • Football is a sport with 11 men on the field. And even though the quarterback is usually the most famous, it takes all 11 of them to play.
  • Baseball is a sport of 9 people on the field all playing together as a team. Even though the pitcher seems to capture a great deal of attention, it takes all 9 to make a full team to complete the game.
  • Basketball is a sport of 5 people on the court. All 5 of them have different skills, different heights, and different positions, it takes all 5 of them to play this amazing sport.

But Track and Field is very different. It is a solo sport for the most part. Yes, there are relay teams, but most of it track and field is very individual. There is one person at the starting line, and when the gun sounds and the race begins that person runs by themselves around the track. No help. No teammates. No handoff to someone else. They are all alone running against the opponents, and they run by themselves until the finish line.

This Sunday I will be focusing on a long passage of Scripture that I want you to be familiar with before you come to worship. Hebrews 11:1 – 12:2. Yes, the whole of chapter 11 and the first 2 verses of chapter 12. In Hebrews 12:1-2 it says for us to “run the race that is set before us.” And this charge given to us flows out of the incredible testimonies you find in all of Hebrews 11. All summer I’ve been teaching about the Gospel in every chapter, every stage of life. Young years, older years, years of prosperity, years of tragedy and many more. But in each and every stage and chapter of life there are challenges that we face, and the Gospel to be lived out. This Sunday as I wrap up this summer series, I am using the testimonies from people’s lives that are found in Hebrews 11 to ask ourselves two important questions:

  • What chapter of life am I in right now?
  • How can God use me to live out the Gospel in this chapter of life?

Come prepared Sunday with Hebrews 11 & 12:1-2 having read this and contemplated over.

See you Sunday.
