Anyone Knows What Happened to Peter?

Anyone Knows What Happened to Peter?

Two Sundays ago, we completed our study of the Gospel of Mark when Billy gave us a message on the Resurrection. If you recall my message on the introduction to the Gospel of Mark back in September 2024, I said that the whole gospel was likely based on Mark’s conversations with the Apostle Peter. Peter and Mark were close friends, and Peter was likely a mentor to Mark. Peter comes up a lot in the gospel. Peter was the first disciple mentioned in the gospel, and also the last disciple mentioned in the gospel. The Gospel of Mark was all Peter, Peter, Peter.

As you know, the Gospel of Mark ended with the Resurrection, abruptly. For this reason, some think that Mark wrote a more appropriate ending to his gospel, but it was lost, or purposely stolen. There was nothing recorded in Mark post-resurrection. Zero. Mark put down his pen, immediately. He did not say one thing what happened to Peter next. Where was Peter? But even though nothing was written about Peter in the Gospel of Mark post-resurrection, we do find something written, not in Mark, but in the Gospel of John. What was written about Peter in John post-resurrection? Please read John 21.1–17 before you come to worship this Sunday. We will come together, contemplate this Johannine passage together, and worship. See you Sunday.
