The Core and Crown of Christianity

The Core and Crown of Christianity

We continue in our Psalm series. It’s titled Songs of the King, because every Psalm ultimately finds its greatest significance in Christ, through Christ, and for Christ our King. In reality, all Scripture—all 66 books—points forward to Christ (the Old Testament) and then flows out from Christ (the New Testament).

Last week, we discovered that spirituality without Christ and the God of the Bible is empty, like a compass without true north—it may move and feel meaningful, but ultimately there is no grounding reference. Christian spirituality from the Psalms is shown in the different songs within the book—the song of praise, honest lament, gratitude, remembrance, obedience, serious joy, and Christ.

This coming Sunday, we will be answering another central question. What is the core and crown of Christianity? Is it community? Is it missions and service? Is it to build a nice church? While all these are great and necessary values, the core of Christianity is the glory of God displayed in the gospel of Christ.

No wonder Paul the apostle could unashamedly say, “For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

Psalm 1 is a wonderful channel through which we will hear and be positioned to receive God’s transforming grace through his word and by his Spirit.

If you have 10 minutes in your day, I would encourage you to read Psalm 1 (maybe even by a tree😊—thank you, Lord, for the PNW!) and listen to these songs that we will sing together as a body this Sunday.

May the God of glory grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

Love you, LifeWay family.
