The Day of the Lord Part 2!

The Day of the Lord Part 2!

What motivates you to get something done? I have often talked about the very long list of projects that I have to get accomplished. I have church projects, house projects, yard projects, small projects, and huge projects. In no way am I trying to say that I always get stuff done, but I will tell you that no matter how many things I finally do get accomplished, the list that I go back to seems to just get longer and longer. It doesn’t help that I get new ideas all the time.  Church ideas…. house improvement ideas… house ‘fix it’ necessary things… or just plan old ‘fun’ ideas. But my personal frustration in all this is…. “Do I ever really make any progress?”  I have discovered for me personally that there are 3 key battles I have to work through in order to make any progress on my to do list:

  1. The battle I have with Skill vs. Ignorance:
    1. This one is solved for me by either finding out who knows more than I know and asking (it’s not what you know, but who you know that knows what!)… or just going on “Youtube” and watching someone else teaching me step by step how to fix it.
  2. The battle I have with Time vs. Money
    1. This is often of toss up of “I have the time but no money.” Or.. “I have money but absolutely no time to deal with it.”
  3. The battle I have with Motivation vs. Procrastination
    1. This one is the hardest to deal with because it is an internal battle of the will to do something but I just don’t want to take care of it now.  The ‘can’ gets kicked down the road and 10 years goes by with no progress at all!

Last Sunday Mike Lindholm taught us from the biblical message of “The Day of the Lord” and he did not really get to finish. This coming Sunday I have asked him to finish this message.  There are important things that need to be addressed to us that have to do with procrastination with the message that God is giving us.  In order for us to prepare for Sunday mornings teaching of “The Day of the Lord” part 2, I urge you to read carefully Matthew 7:13-23.  There is a haunting message here that is not necessarily intended to scare us… but it certainly needs to wake call for us!. We most often fight that internal spiritual battle of procrastination when it comes to following Christ with your life. Get ready for Sunday by mulling over this message that Christ has for us in this passage.

The Day of the Lord is to be a wakeup call in our lives. It is not about time or money. It is not about improving our skill sets. It is about procrastination when it comes to heeding to the truth of God in our lives.

As for my personal ‘to do’ list, I know it never goes away. When I die, I have requested that that my family make 2 copies of my ‘to do’ list. One copy to be put with me so I can be buried with it as it will eventually disintegrate. The 2nd copy be handed to my son and daughter so they can maybe finish it!  (I’m joking of course… sort of…)

I very much look forward to Sunday as we examine this truth.
