If you have heard me preach and ‘tell stories’ (which I commonly do) you have learned some things about me. And one of those things is My wife and I enjoy on a day off or relaxing afternoon stopping at a garage sale. The one remarkable thing about garage sales is that of course you find lots and lots of American junk we are famous for that in our culture of collecting far more than we would ever need. But, in the middle of all of the stuff that we find out there, I do find occasionally some real hidden gems. Now I know that what is a precious item to me might be a piece of junk to you. But let’s think about that for a moment. How many times in the scrap pile of life do we find a hidden pearl of great price.
This Sunday will be the beginning of our new year of course. We are continuing this series of messages that we call quote “From Creation to new Creation.” The most Holy and priceless Creation that was so utterly destroyed, Christ has come to REDEEM! We are not talking about just stuff like cars, or furniture, or toys. We are talking about lives… including your life and my life. Christ came to redeem this. We have a great deal coming in the Sunday’s ahead, but they will now be built on this amazing theological truth from God’s Word called “Redemption.” In order to come with your hearts prepared, I would urge you to read through an important story of Jesus baptism. This story is found in all four Gospels, but especially read Mark 1:1-12 as well as John 1:29. There are many parts of this great story (we studied it together last year in our Mark series). But focus on the redemption part of this story… why Jesus came and did what He did.
