I was raised in Japan in a Buddhist home. I met my wife, Shelley, when I came to the U.S. as an
exchange student in college, and we married in 1985. After the birth of our son five years later, she
accepted Christ. A Japanese pastor was doing his internship at the church Shelley was attending in
Chicago, and we became friends. He asked if we could study the Book of John together, and he
ultimately led me to Christ in 1993. This same pastor baptized me in Japan along with my son, Sean, and
I was able to share my testimony with my family.
I have two grown sons, Mike and Sean. When my kids were young, our family was involved in ministry
with international students at Highline College. Today we are involved with FIS (Friends of International
Students) at Green River College. I love getting to know students from around the world. It seems like
just yesterday I was one of them.
